Food Assistance

In Virginia, there are more than 170,000 families living below the poverty level. Many of these families are unable to obtain nutritious food. To combat this growing problem, JFS has partnered with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia to operate a Community Food Pantry.
JFS also receives food from many generous donors throughout our community. If your family or organization is interested in a food drive or wants to bring food or other household supplies to support our pantry.

Communitywide Food Pantry

JFS provides food assistance to all local families in need through our Communitywide Food Pantry. Individuals and Families, regardless of affiliation, can receive food assistance once a month. The Pantry is open Monday and Tuesday mornings from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.

The Pantry is located at 5000 Corporate Woods Drive in Virginia Beach

Milk & Honey Food Program

Jewish hunger in Hampton Roads is real – so is our answer. Annually, the Milk & Honey Food Assistance program keeps food on the tables of approximately 75 local Jewish households, including those with special needs and families who often have to choose between purchasing medication, paying bills, and buying food.

The Milk & Honey program allows clients the opportunity to shop in the Milk & Honey Food Room during set distribution dates and in times of immediate need. Milk & Honey is able to provide some kosher items and items that fit special nutritional needs.

Kosher Meals on Wheels

In 1983, JFS received a grant from Senior Services of South Eastern Virginia to help underwrite the “Meals on Wheels” program. Since then, JFS has provided thousands of meals to individuals who otherwise might not have access to nutritious foods. JFS has the only kosher Meals on Wheels program in our community!

The Kosher Meals on Wheels program is available to home-bound adults age 60 or over who are unable to grocery shop or unable to prepare meals for themselves. This program is subsidized through a partnership with Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia and generous private donors.

JFS’ kosher Meals on Wheels program is available for residents in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, regardless of race, religion, or economic status. Eligibility for the program is defined by the Title III and IV of the Older Americans Act.

To enroll in the program, an agency Case Manager will come to your home to meet with you.
