Counseling for Children & Teens

Like all of life’s stages, childhood can be overwhelming. At Jewish Family Service, the Jessica Glasser Children’s Therapeutic Pavilion offers an inviting setting where licensed professionals can help children, teens, and their families understand and resolve worries or concerns.

Typical concerns may include:
• School related problems

• Peer relationships

• Family illness and loss

Jessica Glasser Children’s Therapeutic Pavilion

The Pavilion is a kid-friendly space that offers an engaging play-therapy room, a “padded volcano room” and opens into the Lee and Bernard Jaffe Family Healing Garden. All of these places are designed to create a comforting, engaging environment for children and teens to express emotions.

Counseling for Adults of All Ages

For over 60 years, the professional staff at Jewish Family Service (JFS) has helped children, teens, and adults of all ages address life’s challenges through a wide range of counseling and support options.

Counseling for Elderly & Disabled Clients

JFS licensed clinical social workers understand that with life’s changes come concerns and stress. Clinical staff members, as part of JFS care navigation for older adults offer an opportunity for you or a loved one to share and explore alternatives with a trusted and experienced professional. For elderly and disabled clients who may be isolated or under financial duress (Food & Financial Assistance), our staff can facilitate access to ancillary services within the agency or in the community.

Home Health Care Services

Substance Abuse Services for Adults and Teens

JFS licensed clinical staff can provide substance abuse counseling for individuals, couples, and families who are concerned about substance use.

In-School Counseling Services

As a community service, Jewish Family Service staff provide in-school counseling and classroom observation services for students at: Hebrew Academy of Tidewater, Strelitz Early Childhood Center, UJF Early Childhood Center, BINA High School for Girls, and Medical Careers Institute. This is designed to assist students with social issues, learning issues, peer concerns, and family concerns.

Additionally, JFS staff can provide educational testing and educational advocacy for school-aged children and teens.

Hours & Payment

In addition to daytime hours, we offer late afternoon and evening appointments for your convenience. Counseling is provided on a fee-for-service basis. JFS participates in many insurance programs and offer a subsidized sliding-fee scale for those requiring financial assistance. For more info, call us or email
