The Jessica Glasser Children’s Therapeutic Pavilion

Within the Dozoretz Center for Family Healing, the Jessica Glasser Children’s Therapeutic Pavilion provides a comforting place for children and teens coping with the loss of a loved one. The Pavilion offers an engaging play-therapy room and a “padded volcano room” where children can find an appropriate outlet for stored emotions. The Pavilion opens into the Lee and Bernard Jaffe Family Healing Garden, where children can have opportunities to express feelings about their loved ones in a serene, natural setting. Qualified therapists use the pavilion to create an optimal, age-appropriate environment for children and teens to express emotions.

Parent Resource Center/Lending Library

Parents dealing with a child’s behavioral or emotional issues often lack support or education to make informed decisions or simply to cope. The JFS Parent Resource Center provides a comprehensive collection of books, videos, and journals on general parenting topics as well as specific issues, including adopting, special needs, grief, divorce and Jewish parenting. Additionally, JFS can provide educational materials, consult with school personnel and give necessary referrals to community resources for further assistance.

The center is located at the Jewish Family Service office at 5000 Corporate Woods Drive, Suite 400, Virginia Beach. Please call (757) 459-4640 for an appointment time.

Peace by Piece Support Group

Peace by Piece is an interfaith, community based peer support group for children, teens, and families who have experienced the death of a loved one. Peace by Piece is a partnership between Edmarc Hospice for Children and Jewish Family Service of Tidewater in which school aged children are divided into age appropriate groups to participate in activities, play, talk, or just be with other children their own age who are also grieving. These groups meet twice a month and are provided free of charge.
